Local Honey San Jose

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and on behalf of all of us here at The Honey Ladies we wish all of you a wonderful and joyous time with your friends and family.

With that being said, here is a recipe that we recommend for your Thanksgiving meal:

Honey-Glazed Turkey Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey (14 to 16 pounds)
  • GLAZE:
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • STUFFING:
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1-1/2 cups chopped celery
  • 12 cups unseasoned stuffing cubes or dry bread cubes
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3-1/4 to 3-3/4 cups boiling water

Directions

  1. Place turkey on a rack in a shallow roasting pan, breast side up. Tuck wings under turkey; tie drumsticks together. Bake at 325° for 2 hours.
  2. In a small bowl, mix glaze ingredients; brush over turkey. Bake 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 hours longer or until a thermometer inserted in thickest part of thigh reads 170°-175°. Baste occasionally with pan drippings. (Cover loosely with foil if turkey browns too quickly.)
  3. For stuffing, in a Dutch oven, heat butter over medium-high heat. Add onion and celery; cook and stir until tender. Add stuffing cubes and seasonings; toss to combine. Stir in enough boiling water to reach desired moistness; transfer to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Bake, covered, for 1 hour. Uncover and bake 10-15 minutes longer or until lightly browned.
  4. Remove turkey from oven; cover loosely with foil and let stand 15 minutes before carving. If desired, skim fat and thicken pan drippings for gravy. Serve with turkey and stuffing. Yield: 14 servings (8 cups stuffing).
Editor's Note: Stuffing can also be baked in turkey. Loosely stuff turkey just before baking; bake as directed, increasing final bake time by 15 minutes or until a thermometer reads 180° in thigh and 165° in center of stuffing.

Local Honey San Jose

Local Honey in San Jose

There are so many uses for honey and so many ways you can incorporate it into cooking. This is where we come in to give you only the best quality Honey around. Our Honey is always 100% Grade A pure raw honey with just the basic filtration. We never "extend" our Honey with corn syrup or otherwise.

We have several varieties available depending on the season. Take for instance our wildflower varieties out of Evergreen/San Jose or Los Gatos, Carmel Valley and Morgan Hill. Blackberry Blossom, Buckwheat Blossom, Clover Blossom, Black Button Sage, and many more when you CLICK HERE today!

Besides our wonderful Honey, we offer a variety of services that will not only help your family out, but will also help the Bees. When it comes to bees, the most important aspect of our Live Bee Removal is ensuring the Queen Bee is transported safely with the honeycombs to her new home. This is extremely important because if the Queen Bee is hurt or killed during this process, the whole colony will be ruined and abandoned in 3-5 days. If the hive is located within a structure in an unnatural way, we first try to save the Queen Bee. After the Queen Bee is saved we then try to save the hive. With this all being said, you will find that we have a heavy heart when dealing with bees, and passion for the work we do.

Local Honey San Jose

Here are some facts that you probably didn't know about:

  • Hands down, unprocessed local honey is the best. Raw honey is the least processed and has the most nutrients.
  • When honey is exposed to high heat, it loses most of it's nutrients and benefits. Try not to microwave your honey!
  • Did you know the darker the honey, the stronger the flavor will beeeeee...plus more nutrients as well as antioxidents.
  • Fun Fact: Buckwheat honey is among the most nutrient rich honeys and has been found to be a great cough suppressant. This type of honey is a toss up for a lot of people because it is so dark and rich. Try mixing it with a milder honey if you think it's too much.
  • Be sure to store your honey at room temperature to avoid crystallization. If your honey does crystallize, set it in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes which will help it to restore to it's normal consistency.
Cough remedy?

Studies have shown that honey can calm a cough as well as, or even better than, over-the-counter cough medicines. Honey has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and can fight bacteria. Combine it with the nutrients in lemons & other citrus, herbs, and spices, and you've got a natural, delicious way to treat cold and flu symptoms. Blends of honey and citrus can be swallowed straight from a spoon or stirred into hot water or tea. The steam and warmth of hot tea and water are also soothing to sore throats and can relieve stuffiness.

Local Honey San Jose

Did someone say Popcorn??

Being in the industry has it's perks, and having an abundance of honey leads me at times to some really cool recipes that I either find or concoct myself. Well the other day, I found a pretty sweet recipe on the site naturalnews.com. Written by Christy Pooschke, she hooks us up with a Popcorn recipe you are surely going to want to try out.

Healthier Sweet 'n' Salty Popcorn Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 4 TBSP butter (or coconut oil)
  • 2 TBSP honey (preferably raw)
  • 1/8 - 1/4 tsp sea salt, to taste

Directions

  • Pop the popcorn into a large bowl using an air popper. (If you prefer, you may use the stove-top method, instead, using the directions printed on most bags of popcorn kernels. In that case, coconut oil is a great choice for stove-top cooking.)
  • Meanwhile, melt the honey and butter (or oil) together on the stove in a small pan over low- to- medium-low heat.
  • When the popcorn is done, pour the butter/oil and honey mixture over the popcorn and toss to coat.
  • Sprinkle the popcorn with sea salt and toss to coat it evenly.
  • This treat is sticky and delicious, and it makes enough to serve 2 to 4 people.

Looks pretty darn good to me, how about you?

Bee Swarm Removal San Jose

Do you know who to call if you have a swarm of bees coming from your home or property?

The Honey Ladies

Swarming is the natural means of reproduction for honeybee colonies. A new honeybee colony is formed when the Queen Bee leaves the colony with a large group of worker bees which is the process called "swarming". In the prime swarm, about 60% of the worker bees leave the original hive location with the old queen. This swarm can contain thousands to ten of thousands of bees. Swarming is mainly a spring phenomenon, usually within a two or three week period depending on the locale but occasional swarms can happen throughout the producing season.

This could be a fun time getting into your car!

If you come across a swarm and don't know what to do, leave it to us, The Honey Ladies. We have emergency same day services available 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. Bee Removal

Are you familiar with our services?

First off, we wish all of you a safe and pleasant Memorial day weekend.  We will never forget the sacrifices of our men and women in war time.

It is sort of funny how we all have this strange fear of bees. There is something to be said about being stung or the fear of. Well, we know this all too well and our passion and love for bees has helped a lot of people out with removals, education, and most importantly, saving the bees.

Here at The Honey Ladies, we will remove bees, yellow jackets, and wasps from many types of structures and plant life including but not limited to:
  • Roofs
  • Walls
  • Chimneys
  • Floors
  • Hard to reach building structures
  • Branches
  • Bushes
  • Trees
  • Valve Boxes
Awesome right?  Well it only get's better. Bees find some of the most random spots in your structures to protect the queen and sometimes those hard to reach spots require demolition to your structure to get them out.  We can handle any repairs needed as a result of a bee extraction job.
Example: Beehive removal repairs. This is the most effective way to permanently remove bees from inside a void within a structure. This process involves removing the part of the structure where the bees have created a hive and then fully repairing the structure back to it's original form and appearance. Whether you have a multi-million dollar property or a private home, our technicians are highly skilled in their craft and will have your property back to par in no time.

If you would like to find out more information and some of the other services we have to offer, please click the following link BEE REMOVAL

Have a great weekend everyone,

-The Honey Ladies
